[INTERVIEW] Cholosus

…INFO…
I’m an old soul in a young body, currently living in Germany. I work on local things like SFX for video games, techno music and pop. As a techno artist I previously featured on small, lesser-known CD compilations, but this year I have two EPs coming out on some good, well-known labels. I’ll keep you informed about that…

…NEW AMBIENT PROJECT…
Recently my ambient album Way of Life drew some attention and received some great support from people around the world. It instantly motivated me to make more. I didn’t wait long and got back to my studio to create music.

…WHY AMBIENT…
Nostalgia, leaving my hometown, having a bad childhood, loneliness and getting some hard things in life done all by myself. On top of that, if you’re a music producer and get overexposed to and bored with the standard social music, you’re gonna discover the drone/ambient genre sooner rather than later…

…MEANING OF “MOMENTUM”…
”The force that keeps an object moving”. There’s nothing much to say: there was a force and a movement that pushed me to make this 4 track EP.

…EVOLUTION ON PREVIOUS WORK…
Way of Life was my first work ever released in the ambient genre – Momentum is a big step up. It evolved a little bit in the sound design but I wanted to keep the raw style of the drone tone. I used some long and evolving tapes with dozens of effects on them to make this 4-track EP.

…ARTIST INSPIRATION…
HTDC (How To Disappear Completely), a small drone cult group from Poland, and FOG. I was completely shocked how chill the tone and the sound was in these albums. They were my biggest inspirations in wanting to learn a little bit about the ambient genre and start producing. Some other artists that I dig: Horizontal Excursions, BVDUB, Poemme, Aphex Twin.

…COMMUNICATION VIA SOUND…
I always attempt to think about how the listener is gonna accept my music and work in the form of listening. I imagine the listeners and my music together as a couple: they sleep together, travel, look outside the window when it rains or they just chill somewhere outside, near the sea. With every occasion the listener should feel the song in his own way, but in a positive way. This is not ‘dark’ drone.

…THOUGHT PROCESS…
Every inspiration comes with an amount of motivation, and motivation brings creation. This is my short definition of how to start producing and creating things in the studio. It varies; sometimes it flows organically and sometimes I need to force it through to finish some things.

…THE MIND’S EYE…
When creating my music I always imagine Switzerland and their big mountains. Usually when I create my music I’ll get sleepy, and when I’m listening to it back it’s like I’m already dreaming.
